Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Only Have a Part of My Tattoo Removed?

Absolutely! The laser pulse is very focused and precise. We can remove certain areas of your tattoo so that you can have it redone or have it look the way you’d like.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

You may notice a frosted appearance immediately after treatment. This is a result of tiny gas bubbles that make the skin appear white or chalky. This will fade away within a half hour. You will have some redness and swelling over the tattoo which will usually resolve over the next few days. There may be some small blisters or pinpoint bleeding, however, scarring is very uncommon.

What Should I Do After Treatment?

We recommend that you keep the area clean. You can apply an ice compress periodically if you desire, but you likely won’t need it. If you are in the sun use a zinc-based sunscreen over the treated area throughout the course of treatment.

How Long Does the Process Take?

Each session is very short and depends on the size of the tattoo. It will only take a few minutes for a small tattoo. The number of sessions required varies, depending on several factors: age of your tattoo, the type, density, and color of the ink used, your skin tone, and your immune system. We recommend a minimum of 4 weeks between sessions. It may take several visits to see any results. As your immune system flushes the ink particles you will first notice black and darker ink colors beginning to lighten. After about 5-20 visits a tattoo may be completely cleared, although some stubborn colors, such as white, may not be removed, most of the ink will have dispersed and absorbed by your body. Your tattoo should be barely visible, or not visible at all.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

We use a state-of-the-art Quanta Discovery Pico Plus laser designed specifically for tattoo removal. The laser delivers a burst of energy that disrupts the ink particles, allowing your body to absorb and break it down naturally.

What Does a Typical Treatment Look Like?

Protective glasses are worn by everyone in the treatment room. The skin’s reaction to the laser is tested to determine the most effective energy for treatment. The treatment itself consists of placing a hand piece against the surface of the skin and activating the laser light. Following treatment, we apply a topical antibiotic cream or ointment. A bandage or patch will be used to protect the site and it should likewise be covered with a sunscreen when out in the sun.

Does Tattoo Removal Hurt?

Yes, but it’s bearable. Pain sensation and tolerance varies widely and depends on which part of the body is undergoing treatment. Most people feel a slight snapping sensation. To help diminish any discomfort you may experience, we use a Zimmer Cryo Chiller during your treatment. The Cryo Chiller is the finest cooler available for tattoo removal and blows air at temperatures of -30 degrees Fahrenheit before, during and after your procedure. This cold air reduces pain and decreases thermal temperatures in the tattoo ink. We can also prescribe a numbing cream that gets applied at home 2 hours prior to your treatment session.
